Volunteer at SCS
Thank you for volunteering. You make a difference.
Volunteer Opportunities and Contact Information
There are many volunteer opportunities available at SCS. The Volunteer Form or the Class Coordinator Interest Form can be found below.
Parents and guardians have a number of opportunities to be involved in the spiritual life and religious formation of their children. They support and help guide the children as they prepare to receive sacraments and participate in various community service endeavors. Volunteers are an integral part of St. Catharine School and parents can choose to participate in the religious education inherent in the life and culture of the school. They are invited to attend monthly masses and prayer services. In addition, the Parent Teacher Association has a “Spirituality” chairperson to help organize and assist in all religious activities at the school and a “Social Concerns” representative who helps coordinate services to the community.
Parent involvement at St. Catharine School is not limited to religious opportunities. The school relies on a very active PTA board and many volunteers to assist in daily operations such as lunch and recess, clerical assistance, and after school activities. Parents are encouraged to use their gifts and talents to enhance the experience of all the students. Many serve as coaches, enrichment facilitators, scout leaders, community service program organizers, and/or fundraising volunteers. Some parents are selected to join field trips and each classroom has an assigned “Class Coordinator” who serves as a liaison between the families and administration.
St. Catharine School has partnerships with the local businesses in that we participate in many activities with the Chamber of Commerce. We had a rain garden planted on the grounds due to partnerships with the town council as an environmentally friendly initiative. The local law enforcement/fire department presents a yearly program in fire safety and prevention. The Knights of Columbus offers many scholarships to graduating students of St. Catharine School. There are several local dentists who meet with the primary school children and teach them about dental hygiene and proper brushing techniques. St. Catharine School partners with many local universities to have student teachers in the building.
St. Catharine School students are involved in visiting the homebound parishioners throughout the year to bring them gift baskets and cards the students have made. The students and school also participate in several different drives throughout the year to collect for the less fortunate. Their response to helping people in need is remarkable.
Protecting God's Children Program and Fingerprinting
Volunteers must wear Virtus clearance badge at all times while volunteering in St. Catharine School. Virtus training needs to be completed only once; but fingerprinting expires every four years. Please check your badge for the expiration of your fingerprinting. Please allow yourself enough time to get your fingerprinting done before expiration. You will need a form with the codes to schedule your fingerprinting appointment.
If you need to complete Protecting God's Children Program and Finderprinting you will need the memorandum explaining the procedure. This information may be obtained through the Rectory, you can also check below for packet, or through Tammy Downing.
